Welcome

Welcome to Valley Community Baptist Church. We are one church in multiple locations with campuses in Avon and Bristol, CT. Our mission is to honor God and grow in Christ by worshipping God, equipping believers, bringing people to Christ and serving our neighbors. We would be honored to have you join us

Valley Bristol

Avezzie Foundation Thanksgiving Drive

VALLEY BRISTOL DIRECTLY SERVING GREENE-HILLS

We're excited to be giving directly to our Greene-Hills School community in our Thanksgiving drive efforts this year! Valley Bristol is contributing food and helping deliver Thanksgiving cartons to needy families with kids attending Greene-Hills and other Bristol schools. This is all done through the Lauren E. Avezzie Charitable Foundation, which organizes this drive each year for households in the central Connecticut region.

PART I: The Foundation's goal is to serve 100 needy families, as determined by the Family Resource Center at Greene-Hills and other Bristol schools. We need to collect food! Please bring bags to Greene-Hills on Sundays; we'll store them for delivery during Thanksgiving week. We have a big challenge ahead of us; ask family and friends to help contribute, too! Please make sure all food is non-perishable and not past its expiration date. Here are the items needed:

THE FOOD LIST:

    • Bag of potatoes
    • Stuffing mix
    • Rice
    • Canned gravy or gravy mix
    • Pie crust mix or ready-made pie crusts
    • Bag of apples
    • Canned vegetables, fruit, or pie filling
    • Fresh collard greens
    • Loaves of bread
    • Cranberry sauce
    • Apple or cranberry juice
    • Frozen turkeys
    • Grocery store gift cards
    • Tea
    • Coffee
    • Canned or packaged milk
    • Napkins
    • Disposable aluminum turkey baking pan

PART II: Here's a great way to do a good deed at the start of Thanksgiving Week. We're going to need dozens of volunteers to help sort cartons and then hand-deliver them to homes in Bristol. Part of the Avezzie Foundation's goal is to introduce community service to teenagers, too, so we're encouraging Valley Bristol students to get involved. Here's what will happen:

Sorting on Sunday, November 19: Volunteers will gather at The Hub from 2-5 p.m. to sort and prep the cartons for delivery. Many hands will make for quick work! Perfect as well for children and teens. Start your Thanksgiving Week by serving others!

Delivery on Monday, November 20: The Avezzie Foundation needs adult drivers and student assistants to deliver cartons to homes in Bristol. Deliveries will be made from 3-7:30 p.m. All drivers and students must complete registration forms in advance. This is also a great way for couples to serve together (two adults in a car) in Thanksgiving Week. If you're interested in helping out, please contact Cindi Avezzie or Paul Semanski.

Join Us This Week

SUNDAY | 10 a.m. | Greene-Hills School  |  718 Pine St.  |  Bristol, CT

Yeah, our Bristol Campus church meets in a gym. Sound strange? Perhaps, but we're informal, authentic and just trying to keep it real. Just like you. We have no pews, no hymnals, no steeples. We're a bunch of people getting together and getting closer to God through the Bible. As one of our new attendees said: "Valley is refreshingly modern, relaxed, and welcoming of everyone -- imperfections and all." So join us this week at Greene-Hills School in Bristol, Connecticut, even if you're not so much about this whole church thing. We believe God has a plan for you. There's a folding chair awaiting you in our gym.

What about my kids?

Our trained and background-checked volunteer teachers and helpers offer a great Children's Ministry program at our Bristol Campus. We offer age-appropriate learning environments for the smallest of babies up through fifth grade. Dedicated teachers for newborns/walkers, 2s and 3s, and Pre-K / Kindergartners will be ready for your children starting at 9:45 a.m.

Your first- through fifth-grader will enjoy some great music and prayer at the beginning of the service, then they will head over to their communities (or, if you prefer of course, they can stay for the message). We also have a Middle School Ministry during that time. If you have children in fifth grade or younger, allow yourself a few extra minutes so you can check them in if they're attending one of our terrific Children's Ministry areas. If you have questions about our children's programs, please contact Paul Semanski by email or at 860.673.6826 x113.

What should I expect? What should I wear?

We believe that every Sunday should start with a smile. Our experienced Welcome Desk volunteers are there to make sure you know where to go. If you have children, check them in, and then follow the crowd down to the school gym. Wear something totally comfortable or your "Sunday Best" -- doesn't matter to us! Your wardrobe, church background or politics don't matter to us. We're here to grow deeper in God and worship Jesus.

Our campus leaders will gather all of us together and launch us into a time of praise and prayer. You can sing along with the live band or just consider the words on the screen. We'll have an offering time, but if you're visiting please just pass the plate on -- you're our guest and there's no pressure to do anything. We just invite you to have an open heart and consider what God might be saying to you on any given Sunday (or any day!).

After the service, there is a time of fellowship and community right there in the gym. Our staff and leaders would love to meet you and say hi. Don't forget to pick up your kids first!
